Banana ChocoChip Smoothie

So, in my opinion (and ‘A’s opinion, as well as that of a few friends)…. I’m pretty good at mixing flavors in ways most people wouldn’t think were compatible. It’s not something I usually put a lot of thought into. In fact it’s quite often more like what happened today.

Today I was making smoothies for ‘A’ and I (one smoothie serving of the smoothie mix we chose to have, counts as 2 carb choices, so makes  for a great afternoon snack).

The mix we were using was “Yoplait, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough“… Which is quite good by itself. Just empty the small packet into your blender, add half a cup of milk (we often do about 3/4 of a cup because we like them a bit looser) and blend.

Well today I got an idea. I have a couple bags of mixed frozen fruit in the freezer (Strawberries, Bananas and Pineapple) for when I want to make standard fruit smoothies not from a packet (using frozen fruit is awesome for a smoothie especially if you tend to have a lot of fruit that expires in your fridge like we do). So I took a couple of frozen banana slices (in this case, about 1/4 of a standard bananas worth) and added them to the blending container.

Now in our little blender, this was a little to much for all our ingredients, so I crammed it all together, and got the container stuck in the blender… (We use one of those 1 serving blenders, and I was essentially making 2 servings in a 1 serving container).

Once I freed the container, and put the “lip guard” on (the blending container is basically a plastic cup with a threaded top where the blender blending bits screw on. There are plastic guards that protect your lips and teeth from the threaded bits and make it look more like a cup) it tasted quite awesome.

I would have used more banana if I had more room in the container, but between that, and the fact that I was experimenting, I only did the 1/4 banana worth.

I was surprised that it had such a distinctly new taste. I gave ‘A’ her portion and said “I was experimenting, you won’t be able to guess what it is, but you will love it”…

She tried it (she’s learned to not be skeptical of my skills, because so far I’ve only cooked one meal she didn’t absolutely love) and replied “I don’t know what it is, but I like it”…

Frozen Fruit MedleyIngredients:
(Makes 2x Servings, about 30 carbs per serving. All ingredients can be purchased from your local Super-Walmart, but we got the BIG multi-bag of smoothie mix from BJ’s)

  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Smoothie Mix (Yoplait, 1x Packet,  makes 2x servings)
  • Frozen or Fresh Banana (1/4 of a banana)
  • Milk (1/2 to 3/4 cups. I prefer Skim/Non-Fat)

Directions:

  • Take contents of small smoothie bag (2 servings) and empty it into blender container.
  • Add  1/2 to 3/4 milk (experiment to taste).
  • Add 1/4 of a full banana (again, experiment to taste).
  • Blend until creamy smooth and there are no signs of any chunks.

ENJOY! -R
